School History
The original Nowra Public School, established in 1862, was a slab building 40 feet long and 16 feet wide and was built on land owned by the Presbyterian Church with half the building being apartments for the Master.
In September 1864, building commenced on the present site on the corner of Plunkett and Berry Sts, Nowra. This building was opened in May 1865 and is still in use today although it has undergone significant extensions and modifications. This building now houses the entry foyer, main office, Principal’s office and sick bay.
In 1919 the school began classes for the Intermediate Certificate, thus beginning the Secondary section of the school.
In 1952 the Infants section moved to its current site and in 1955 Nowra High School was built.
1968 saw permanent buildings completed on the Infants site with a new canteen and major renovations on the primary site.
The library was built in 1981 and the school hall, which included a large enclosed covered area, and refurbishment of the canteen was completed in 2003.
The current Principal, Mr Clive Robertson, is the 35th Principal of the school.
